he IELTS Academic Writing Test is regarded as the toughest test out of the four sections of the IELTS test. In the Writing Test. There are two tasks to do – Task1 and Task2. Candidates should first collect some free study materials from the Internet, and follow the instructions and tips given there about how to write an essay. But this is not a skill to develop without expert help, because apart from writing the essay in the correct format, the candidates need to know how to write error-free complex sentences, using a wide range of vocabulary appropriately. Execution of grammatical skill is a big factor. The essay writing job falls in Task 2, and candidates need to write in minimum 250 words, with hardly any spelling mistakes while chasing for a high Band Score.
Don’t feel bad if you do it wrong or can’t find an answer. Some parts of every IELTS section are really hard, it’s simply because they want to grade people on the band from 1 to 9, and of course questions are of varying difficulty to access the level of a candidate’s competence. So if you can’t find an answer, it’s maybe because it’s too hard or too confusing! Remember, you are not a native English speaker, and getting a perfect score is neither expected nor required. So if you miss a question, realize that it’s still okay. But it’s NOT okay to start fretting over your mistake and miss the other questions in the process! Remember patting on your back? Pat yourself here too, for doing the other questions right!
Prepare yourself for every section. It’s actually tiring to focus your mind on one task for about 2 and a half hours. It’s not easy, and the only thing that helps is preparing your mind for it. It’s just like getting hit by a child. If you know the blow is coming, you brace yourself, tighten you muscles and it feels not too bad. (Of course, you can frown at the child!). But if you don’t know that little kid is about to hit you, the blow really hurts. It’s the same principle here: Tell you mind that there will be three hard passages of time when you need to focus: half an hour, one hour, and another hour. And there will be small breaks in between where you can take deep breaths and feel good again! This little mental preparation about what’s coming your way help a lot towards achieving total focus.
